Star Wars fans are an amazing community of people that constantly rally around one another in times of need. It's one of the things that sets Star Wars fandom apart from the others. There was a great post added to the Official Star Wars Blog today telling the story of the pink Astromech droid R2-KT. For those of you that don't know, R2-KT was made for a little girl named Katie Johnson. Her Father, Albin Johnson, founded the costuming group the "501st". The 501st is known for being the largest costuming group with garrisons all over the world. More so than that, they spend countless hours spreading the joy Star Wars has given them with everyone through volunteer work and numerous charities.
When Katie was diagnosed with brain cancer, she wanted a droid of her own to talk to and watch over her. A group of great people with the "R2 Builders" club came through and R2-KT was born. Katie has left us, but R2-KT carries her spirit around the world to fans and children with illnesses.
