Ever since Disney announced its acquisition of Lucasfilm, the Star Wars community has been a buzz with the possibility of more visibility in the parks. This past week Disney started a little skirmish without even knowing it. They have been known for their diligence with regards to customer research and making sure every move they make for the parks is the right move for the "brand". Annual passholders and select others received an email survey that asked them among other things "how interested would you be in a Star Wars themed land at Disneyland". BOOM GOES THE DEATH STAR! Fans on both coasts started battling back and forth about the necessity for a "Star Wars Land" at either Disneyland or Walt Disney World. Last year Disneyland unveiled their masterpiece "Carsland".Which I have to say the imagineers couldn't have done a better job of recreating Radiator Springs. It has boosted park attendance and is reaping the benefits Disney had hoped for. As for Walt Disney World they have also unveiled it's latest creation "New Fantasyland". This latest extension to the Magic Kingdom has definitely been a welcomed addition to the park.
Last year Disney also announced a partnership with James Cameron to create an Avatar themed land in Animal Kingdom. Stories have surfaced since that the partnership has had it's up's and down's to the point of maybe scrapping the whole project. Which leads me to my pitch for Walt Disney World to be the home of Star Wars Land.
The land that is now Camp Mickey was the location of Avatarland. However, I think this would be a wonderful place for guests to land on Endor. The Animal Kingdom has long been a beacon for conservation and teaching people about the wonders of the Earth. So this would be the perfect way to combine the best of both worlds. You can satisfy the Star Wars fans by having rides, shows, and don't forget a cantina (which hardcore fans will say "hey that wasn't on Endor" just stay with me). They could also have kids programs about saving the environment and what better way to brand to kids than Ewoks.
Disneyland has long been the O.G. park for earheads to gather and take in all of the nostalgia that Walt envisioned when he wanted a family friendly theme park. On the other hand Walt Disney World is the fantasy that Walt dreamed about when he flew over the swamps of Florida. To have the most magical place in the galaxy.
